TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT RUG

As you might know, picking the right rug can be a tricky decision. Therefore, here is our rug school with sketches where you can easily get tips on what to consider before buying a new rug. The idea to use rugs developed over time for reasons such as giving warmth to a room and to protect the floor against wear. Rugs still maintain these advantages but have also become important key pieces to any interior decoration. In addition to the great assets of adding texture and color, there are many other advantages that come with choosing the right rug to your home; we have the firm belief that a rug can truly transform a room.

If the rug will be placed in a seating area, it should be at least 8 inches wider than the width of the sofa. If the sofa is placed in the middle of the room, it will be good if all the seating furniture is on the rug itself, such as armchairs, seat cushions, and tables. If a sofa is placed against a wall, it is better if the front of the sofa is just on the rug. When sitting on the sofa your feet should be on the rug and not on the floor. If there is a side table next to the sofa, the rug needs to stick out 8 inches wider from where the side table ends.

TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIAL

This is probably the most important aspect when choosing a rug. Remember the requirements of the place where the rug will be placed, is it a rug in a hallway, a living room or a kitchen? It is also important to consider how space will be used, what kind of traffic it will receive and how much coziness you desire.

Layered is offering four different materials within our collections. The rugs in our Wool Collection are all hand woven in 100 % heavy wool which gives it a sturdy, good stain, and water repellency but yet a cozy feeling to your feet. With its resistant surface, the wool rug is a great fit for any room in your home. When a wool rug is brand new it’s inevitable that fuzz appears on the surface when used. It’s, therefore, best to vacuum clean the carpet regularly. The fuzz will decrease after some time but will never cease completely.

All rugs in our Viscose Collection and our Solid Viscose Collection are in 100 % viscose which overtime gets a fuzzy expression. If you wish for a rug with a slightly shiny and shimmery look together with a soft touch, a viscose rug is the one to choose. But remember, a viscose rug is more sensitive than other materials so have in mind not to place it in a high traffic area of your home, or in a room where people tend to walk with outdoor shoes. When a viscose rug is brand new it’s inevitable that fuzz appears on the surface when used. It’s, therefore, best to vacuum clean the carpet regularly. The fuzz will decrease after some time but will never cease completely.

In our Recycle collection, the rugs are made from recycled PET bottles. Melted bottles are used to produce a thread, which in turn is spun into yarn. The resulting handwoven rugs have the same look, texture, and softness as traditional wool rugs. These rugs are generally durable, easy to remove stains from, and even go well outdoors on a balcony or terrace.

COLOR AND DESIGN

Since a rug is one of the largest decorative pieces in your home, it should symbolize your style. But how do you know which color and design to choose? When considering this question, you should decide if you wish the rug to blend in your current style and has similar nuances and expression as the rest of the interior decoration. Or if you want to be bold and aim for a contrast to your existing furniture? Good advice is to choose colors according to the complementary colors theory, also known as opposite colors. Let the colors and design pick up the other details in the room to create a good balance. If you have monochrome furnishing and neutral colors, why not try an expressive rug with daring colors?
